Uncanny X-Men by andyparkart Uncanny X-Men by andyparkart
I was able to illustrate my childhood favorite comic book, Uncanny X-men. I did a fill-in stint from issues # 452-454. It was a dream not only b/c it was the X-Men, but also b/c the legendary Chris Claremont, who essentially defined the X-Men, was the writer for these issues. I did the pencils, Jon Sibal did the inks, and Justin Ponsor did the colors.

Awesome! I have these comics. One of the last times, the X-Men was cool.

Chris Claremont RULES!

Thanks aerozones! I had the most fun on Tomb Raider. And yeah, my X-Men run was short. Marvel wanted me to do more but it was around the time when I was moving away from comics to go into concept art.

And yup- good eye! That is Lara giving her number to Kurt. My nod to my Tomb Raider run and the readers => Did you notice Chase too?

That's very nice.
Precisely i'm about to get the issues that contain your work. Here in Spain they have been edited as "volume 3". The nr 1(i supose is UX-451 or so), it's rather difficult to get, but i think i might find it. Then, i'll get the ones you made, and so one, now we are in the 503 issue(nr 43 spanish).

Thanks a lot for the magnificent work you did on this! I've read the book about a year ago and I was astonished by your fine line work.

And lucky you for fulfilling your dream. Working with mr. Claremont must be really an amazing experience.

I have this issue, and I enjoy it and see something new each time I look at it, I study it regulary to see what I can learn as a colorist from Justin's input, but your line work was amazing, and I loved the fight between Emma and Rachel, and the facial expressions throughout! :)

American comics usually aren't my thing because of their odd art styles, but I'm really drawn to yours. I love the way you draw Nightcrawler and the girls. From what little comic book experience I've had, the girls sometimes look too strongly featured and... unappealing, I guess I would say. Your girls, on the other hand, look appropriately feminine.

I just wanna hug Nightcrawler, he's so cute in that last page. His haircut is so boyish.

I wish there was a comic book store around here, 'cause I would definitely go out and buy those issues you did.

Thanks a lot! I appreciate your comments a lot! If you're interested you can always buy some of the comics I worked on in tradepaperback form. You can find them on Amazon. Just type my name in the search box and it should show some of the trades I worked on like Tomb Raider and Uncanny X-Men.

Andy, about these...Tell us please about those backgrounds.
How much of them is traditional rendering or digital orphoto reference (if any) because they look great.

Well, everything is hand drawn by myself in pencil- figures, backgrounds, etc. Then, it was inked by Jon Sibal, and photoshop colored by Justin Ponsor. Is that what you were asking?

:iconlikodemus:

That pretty much covers it.
I knew all about the step-by-step-by-different-artists process but those backgrounds are the best!
I recently knew about a software called "SketchUp" which some professional artist use to render simple 3D backgrounds to trace over them and render the details.
Some may not like it but for me that would be a time-saver.

The sense of perspective and composition in those pages you pencilled is tremendously life-like.

I absolutely loved your work in that story arc. Especially the astral fight between Emma and Rachel, Selene's ink-like special effects, and your rendition of Sage. I also liked how #454 wasn't inked. You have a really cool style.
